Couch Park Court Renovation Update

Post date: Nov 14, 2016 2:9:34 PM

Dear STA Members,

Just wanted to let everyone know that the bids for the Couch Park Court renovation were received at the end of October and that a recommendation to award the bid will be submitted to the City Council for approval Monday, November 21. The City received 8 bids with nearly all coming in under the budgeted funds so we should expect to see 4 brand new courts by spring.

Because of weather issues, it's not clear when construction will begin but I know that the Parks & Rec Manager Jim Scott is pushing to start immediately. The only major issue is to avoid surfacing the courts in rainy or cold weather (below 65F). We want to avoid the surfacing adhesion issues that we encountered at Sunset which was done in the rain.

As for what will actually be done, the entire set of 4 courts will be redone with what is called a post tension concrete overlay. We will get new tennis posts, new black coated fencing, windscreens, lines for junior tennis on 2 courts, 2 backboards, and an additional centrally positioned entrance on the west side.

I hope that this is not the end of our push for new courts but just the beginning.
