City Tennis Courts Update

Dear STA Members & Stillwater Tennis Community,

I just want to thank everyone that came out this past Monday to let the City Council know that there is a large and growing tennis community in town that desperately needs better tennis courts and more of them where they belong - at the high school or in a more central location. Your voice matters and will make a difference in our campaign to improve and make Stillwater a better place to live.

It may have been unclear what was decided at the meeting. What will definitely happen this year is for the existing 4 Couch Park courts to be renovated/rebuilt with what is called a post-tension concrete overlay which will result in courts that are equivalent to brand new post-tension concrete courts. The City Council also asked the City Staff to look into what it will cost to do the same at Sunset Park and what else the city could do to address the lack of courts in town and come back with a recommendation.

The Council was made aware that Chris Young's OSU Tennis programs need additional courts in town to be capable of hosting the NCAA Tennis Championships that would bring millions of dollars of economic activity into the community and that they will need to make a decision by June to support his bid. Let's hope that this will be the extra nudge that brings about some movement.

Thanks again for your support and for making tennis a priority in our community.
